Volunteer Application Form (all volunteers must submit this form to CSLL)

Without U, there can be no League!

Please Volunteer

In order for Central Springfield Little League to be a successful, enriching league, we need your help.  One person cannot successfully run a team, and a few people cannot successfully run a league.

CSLL is a parent run, volunteer organization.  From the President of the league to the managers, to the umpires to parents of players, everyone pays the same fees and has the same expectations that CSLL will provide a safe place for our children to have fun and learn the game of baseball.

The obvious needs regularly include:  Managers, Coaches, Umpires, Team Parents, and Concession Stand Workers. Without them we certainly couldn't provide the programs that we do. However, we also need Scorekeepers, Field Maintenance Workers, Game Announcers, Safety Officers, Photographers, Web Designers, Electricians, Plumbers, Painters, etc.  Without volunteers, Central Springfield could not exist.  Remember, you and your children will only get out as much as you put into the league.

If you would like more information on what the various volunteer jobs involve, just click on the job title below.  If you can help out in any way, please, contact us by clicking here, or you can talk with any CSLL “White Hat” Board Member when you visit Trailside or Franconia Parks.

League-wide Volunteers

Umpires

We are always in dire need of more umpires.  CSLL umpiring primarily relies on volunteer adult umpires and some paid junior (12 years or older) umpires.  All umpires must complete pre-season training classes and pass the required in-house tests and training to become an umpire.  After that, the Chief Umpire puts out the game schedule each week and solicits help from all of the qualified umpires.  Umpires are crucial to the league, because, without the umpires, there can be no games.

Aside from calling ball or strike, safe or out, umpires are responsible for teaching players good sportsmanship and the rules of the game. Umpires are also called upon to interpret rules and help settle minor disputes that may occur during games.

General Maintenance/Field Maintenance:

The League has “adopted both Trailside and the Franconia Park field, and is responsible for maintaining the fields and making general repairs before the season begins, during the season, and after the season is over. Throughout the season (spring and fall), we need many people to help with maintaining these fields.  In addition to general field maintenance, which occurs throughout the year, we often need to make repairs on our facilities and could use the assistance of parents or family members with specific skills, like electric or plumbing work, carpentry, etc. If you can help, please contact any Board Member to offer your services.  Before each Spring season begins, there is a lot of work to be done to get the fields and the park ready for the season.  Some of the things done, include:

  • Mowing
  • Raking
  • Filling holes
  • Trimming
  • General Plumbing, if necessary
  • General Electrical, if necessary
  • General Painting
  • General Carpentry

Team Volunteers

 Manager

Individuals interview for manager positions for all teams and are voted on and approved by the Board of Directors.  Each team has a manager who is responsible for the team. Aided by coaches, the manager holds practices and games, determines batting order and player positions, is responsible for player behavior at games and works with the players to develop skills. Managers attend try-outs and select their teams (for AA-Jr/Sr). CSLL usually holds coaching clinics prior to the season to help build both confidence and coaching skills.  Time commitment – managers are expected to be at all practices and games, as well as have time for the necessary administrative aspects of managing.

Coach

Coaches are selected by the manager.  The team coach helps to instruct players in baseball skills. They help at practices and games.  The coach also attends try-outs (if required) to assist the manager. Coaches are subject to board approval.  The manager and two coaches are allowed in the dugout during games.  Time commitment – coaches are expected to be at practices and games

Team Parent

The team parent has many important duties. They coordinate the fund-raiser for their team, organize any necessary volunteers (concessions, etc.), coordinate trophies, team parties, etc. and help the manager communicate information to parents.

Scorekeeper

Each team from the A-ball level up through Jrs/Srs is responsible for providing an official scorekeeper when they are the home team. The scorekeeper, or another volunteer usually also runs the electronic scoreboard.

Concessions

Teams are required to supply individuals (approx. 5-6 per shift) to work shifts in the CSLL concession stand.  These individuals will be supervised by a CSLL Concession Stand Manager.  This involves preparing and cooking food, handling all food transactions (sales), and cleaning up at the end of the shift, if required.  If you would like to volunteer to help out more in the concessions stand, just contact the CSLL concessions stand coordinator.

Miscellaneous

Help is also needed to:  assist at practice, line the fields before games, rake the field after games, and help keep CSLL clean by putting the trash away.

It truly takes a team effort to make a team (and a league) run smoothly.
